I’ve worked in a variety of areas across the equine industry; from riding track work on young racehorses, to training and coaching dressage and show horses at a local, national and international level.
In the early days I had intensive coaching with Australian Grand Prix dressage rider/trainer Sally-Leigh Woods, who herself had been trained by Herbet Rehbine. During this time I had great success in Western Australia, winning numerous State Championships in both the open class and as a young rider. I decided to move to Europe for something more challenging and for the first six months I worked in Scandinavia riding 12 young horses daily, training their basic gaits and lateral movements.
The next year I went on to work and train with 18 times National British Champion and team GB Olympic Silver Medalist Vicki Thompson-Winfield. I spent most of this time assisting Vicki with training her team of horses from Prix St. George to Grand Prix. I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to ride, compete and successfully campaign some very talented young horses.
After completion of my university studies I moved with my Don Primero stallion to Germany, and spent time working with some lovely horses under the guidance of a fellow Australian rider and trainer, Brianna Burgess. Brianna very kindly took me under her wing and helped me overcome some of the obstacles that challenge riders on moving to Europe. Briana’s training, guidance and friendship was invaluable. I had some great opportunities and successfully competed on her team of young sales horses in competitions throughout Germany.
I am currently based in the North East of Holland at Stal Emmy De Jeu where Emmy breeds and produces top quality young horses, some of which will come through our training program. Other youngsters will be prepared for competition, classification or to be sold. Emmy and I also work closely to assist clients in finding horses suitable for their competition level and ambitions. We both travel regularly to Australia, UK and, more recently, the USA.
Through both Emmy’s and my own network of connections I am proud to offer my services in facilitating clients finding new partners and selling horses. I am also available for training and campaigning horses in the Netherlands and coaching riders from beginner through to FEI level worldwide.
